Mayor of Ouadane
Born in 1963, Mohamed Lemine Baba is a university professor and an international expert in the environment and sustainable development, elected Mayor of Ouadane on the Al-Islah party list. He has dedicated his career to protecting natural resources and raising environmental awareness, holding leadership positions at both the national and international levels.
Between 1990 and 1996 he served as Director of Student Affairs at the Higher Scientific Institute, contributing to the development and delivery of its academic programmes. He was among the founders of the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques and became its first Secretary-General, from 1997 to 2000.
From 2001 to 2017 he represented the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Mauritania and coordinated its technical programme, making notable contributions to biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of ecosystems. From 2018 to 2022 he worked as an environmental expert within the German technical cooperation programme (GIZ) in Mauritania, helping to implement innovative, sustainability-focused projects.
Since 2022 he has coordinated the West Africa Coastal Management Programme in Mauritania, where he continues to design and implement strategies to protect the coastline and address the environmental challenges it faces.

First Deputy Mayor
Born in 1979, he holds a baccalaureate in mathematics (2000) and a master’s degree in economics and management (2004). He served as an administrative and financial officer at the Municipality of Ouadane (2006–2007) and with the local credit and savings funds (2006–2008), and since 2008 has worked in trade, business and contracting.
Second Deputy Mayor
Born in 1974, she was educated at the mahadra (traditional Quranic school) and completed her primary and lower-secondary schooling. She is an active figure in the community’s political and social life, contributing to public service and the wellbeing of residents.
Third Deputy Mayor
Born in Ouadane in 1994, he is a construction professional and community organiser who led the Ouadane Youth Coalition. He is also a distinguished young voice in Hassani literature. Elected a municipal councillor in 2024, he works to advance local development and support projects for young people and the community.

Council Member
A prominent figure in Mauritanian administration and public life, he studied statistics in Rabat, Morocco. He has held senior roles including chairman of the board of Tanit Port and head of Mauritania’s diplomatic mission in the UAE, with broad experience across trade, statistics and public institutions. He is fluent in Arabic and French.

Born in 1962, she is a respected community figure active in political and social life, elected a municipal councillor for Ouadane in 2023.

Born in 1976, he trained as a teacher and has worked in education since 2006 as a teacher and school director across the Ouadane department. He collaborates with the Ouadane education inspectorate and, since 2024, runs the “Echamal Ouadane” media platform.

Born in 1977, he chairs the participatory management association of the Tilba oasis. He has experience in municipal affairs and development planning and works to strengthen community participation and local projects.

Born in Ouadane in 1977, he is a heritage technician and manuscripts conservator. Since 2017 he has headed a department at the National Foundation for the Safeguarding of Ancient Towns and represents it in Ouadane. Trained in manuscript conservation in Italy and with UNESCO, he is an expert in restoration, heritage protection and cultural tourism.
